Desert Waves Transcript - 16th Oct 2015

Audio:

Good morning listeners, this is Lemuel Huppe here at Desert Waves. Coming to you wherever the sun-baked, windswept earth cracks underfoot, and the dust hangs heavy in the air.

Feeling a little foggy this morning? Gotten out the wrong bed? Well we've got three hours of good conversation and good music to set you up for whatever the day has to throw at you. So grab that cup of Joe, sit back, and relax with this classic tune.

Listeners, here at Desert Waves we try and try and bring you the best music the world has to offer. But these days trends change so quickly. It can be hard to keep up when what is new is already old, and what was old is new once more. So here are some tracks to kick us into the 20th century.

*music break* You're Dead, Ashes to Ashes

Time for the news, and there have been reports of strange weather over Arizona and neighbouring states. It looks like we're experiencing electrical storms. The clouds are dark, listeners, they are black and roiling. There is lightning and there is thunder. We recommend that you, your pets, and livestock stay indoors until this all blows over. We'll keep you updated as the news unfolds.

*music break* I've Been Everywhere, Horse with no name

I always love it when a listener reaches out to us here at Desert Waves. Lisa, of Steamboat, Arizona, shares a story about her dog Clyde. When walking him the other day, he ran off into the shrubland. She thought he was chasing a rabbit, but he returned with a crumpled package. And listeners, that package contained 100 silver dollars! Talk about a lucky find. I guess every dog has his day! Do you have a story you want to share with us at the Waves? Why not write in? You all know how!

*music break* Every Dog has its day, Wayfaring Stranger

Listeners, I have an update on the news of the electrical storm. There are reports of rolling blackouts across New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada. But don't worry, at Desert Waves we won't let a little thing like that stop us from broadcasting. If you lose your power be sure that we will still be here when it comes back on.

*music break* Oh Death

radio cuts out, static with barely audible numbers being read out behind it

when radio cuts in…

I've crossed these sands many times. The desert is so huge, and the horizon so distant, that they make a person feel small, and as if he should remain silent…The desert takes our dreams away from us, and they don't always return. We know that, and we are used to it. Those who don't return become a part of the clouds, a part of the animals that hide in the ravines and of the water that comes from the earth. They become part of everything …They become the Soul of the World. We, their hearts, become fearful just thinking of loved ones who go away forever, or of moments that could have been good but weren't, or of moments that could have been found but were forever hidden in the sands.
